United Nations (New York) – The Peruvian Minister for External Relations, Carlos Espá y Garcés Alvear, on Thursday in New York, expressed his country’s support for “the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its sovereignty over the Sahara”, as well as its support for “the Moroccan Initiative of Autonomy for the Sahara, considering it a political, just, lasting and acceptable solution by all parties”.
This announcement was made in a joint communiqué signed after the talks held between the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita and his Peruvian counterpart, on the margins of the 81st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The communiqué states that Peru “has indicated its willingness to open a Consulate in the city of Dakhla, which will serve as a platform for access to African markets for Peruvian products”.
The communiqué also stresses Peru’s full commitment to “Resolution 2797, adopted by the United Nations Security Council in October 2025, which gave new impetus to the process of settling the dispute over the Sahara, on the basis of the said Moroccan Initiative”.
